“Apocalypse Meow” in 2010

Posted by Oblivious On August - 14 - 2009

A computer-generated anime adaptation of Cat Shit One by Studio Anima is set to come to the US in early 2010. The original manga is about three American soldiers in operation during the Vietnamese war. In the series the battleground has shifted into Middle East where the bunnies are trying to rescue hostages held by some guerrillas.

Bota, Perky and Rats are the names of the three US bunny recon group. The use of bunnies as Americans are based on a Japanese pun, as bunnies are “usagi”, aka U.S.A. G.I.’s.  I think the name reflects against the original enemies in the manga, aka the vietnamese Cats, but now that they’ve moved the setting to the middle east, they’re actually up against Camels.

The concept of “Apocalypse Meow” is simply that since these days people are too used to seeing people dying in movies, the producers hoped that the use of cute and fluffy animals as characters could give viewers a stronger feeling of the misery of the wars [via Patrickmacias]

Deal of the Day: 60% off Garmin Nuvi 855

Posted by Locke Cole On August - 13 - 2009

Garmin-Nuvi-855Amazon has put up a pretty slick deal on the Garmin Nuvi 855 satnav unit today: giving 60% off the normal price. The Nuvi 855 satnav normally cost $499.99 due to the features it includes, but with the 60% discount for the unit? You’re looking at $199.99 (a saving of $300). Lets take a closer look at the 855 nuvi.

The Garmin 855 Nuvi is an ultra-slim satnav device that has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to help achieve a faster lock. It comes pre-loaded with City Navigator NT maps of the whole of North America and has 6 million name-searchable points of interest that you can search for by current location or other locations.

Speech recognition is also included in this unit allowing you to keep your eyes on the road while searching through menus and setting up a destination. It features a where am I function and where is my car function that allows you to store the co-ordinates of your vehicle making it easy to get back to in unfamiliar cities (trust me on this one, it’s well worth it!). Text to speech is also included that allows it to read out real street names to you rather than “turn left in 100 yards”.
